Steven J. Scott ~ Studio Director
Picture
I am Steven J. Scott, and I’m an actor, teacher, performance coach and director.
I am from Port Arthur Texas, where I graduated from Lincoln High School and then received my college education at Prairie View A&M University. While in school I majored in Performing Arts and was an active member of the award winning and well recognized college theatre company, called The Charles Gilpin Players. My major and training focus included acting, directing, musical theatre and stage management. I use all of these skills in my career today.
With consistent work and dedication I have become an accomplished stage and film actor. I’ve performed in dozens of plays and musicals in some the most notable theatre houses all over the country, and worked on camera for film companies like DREAMWORKS, VH1, HBO, ABC, Disney and Starz. My dedication to the craft of acting has several times been noted with acting awards such as, “Best Actor in a drama” (Ensemble Theatre of Houston), “Best Actor” (The Kennedy Center of Performing Arts), “Best Supporting Actor” (Houston Press).
The other professional hats I wear is that of studio director, theatre director and acting teacher. I am currently the Studio Director of Inspire Talent in Denver Colorado.
Inspire Talent is one of the leading talent scouting companies in the country. At Inspire I oversee the scouting and training of new or experienced actors, models and singers. I direct showcases for the artist, and they perform in front of agents and managers from the Los Angeles area.
I am also currently the Head Acting Coach for The Industry Network in Los Angeles. IN is fast becoming the industry's leading Talent Event, and also promotes and showcases emerging actors, models and singers to the industry’s leading Agents, Managers, and Casting Directors. In my spare time I am a private acting coach. I have had the pleasure helping to teach and assist in developing some very gifted performers such as, Albert Tsia (Trophy Wife/Dr. Ken), Davis Cleveland (Flinn on Disney’s “Shake It Up), and Austin Michael Coleman (House). Austin won Young Artist Award for Best Actor for his role on ‘House,’ starring Hugh Laurie.
My directing and teaching experience spans fifteen years. Early in my career I became the youngest director to mount a production at the award winning Ensemble Theatre of Houston. (Color Me Dark: The Dairy of Nellie Lee Love and the Great Migration) Some of my other directing credits include: Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters, Wiley and The Hairy Man, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Gospel at Colonus, Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope, and August Wilson-A Tribute. I am formerly the Director of Education for Express Children’s Theatre of Houston, and the head of the film acting program at John Robert Powers-Acting-Modeling-Life in Houston Texas.
I am still passionately pursuing acting also, and am a member of the SAG-AFTRA union. I recently completed filming “Urban Shakedown”; due in theaters the summer of 2018. I can be seen on Starz Kids and Family network, starring in ‘The Wannabes.’A story of six teenagers who wannabe pop stars. I play Frank Moody, the wisdom-dropping Sweet Shop owner and dad of one of the ‘wannabes’. The hit T.V. show is also airing on HBO Family in Latin America, and is being seen in 100 countries around the world. A few of my other film and TV credits include, Hollywood Heights (Nick@Nite), 90210 (CBS), Real Steel (DreamWorks), Witchcraft 13 (Upstart Films), and The Way She Moves (VH1).
